Dr Simon Barnes – Author & journalist

Do you know what worries me? It’s the war between people and wildlife. We’re squeezing our wild places to death: and both people and wildlife are the losers.

What’s the solution? It’s hard for people to live in peace with wildlife in the very wildest places — nosimon-barnes-authort least because they’re almost always the very poorest places.

Wild places and wild creatures will only survive if they have value and meaning to the local community who breathe the same air. If we can begin to broker a peace between humans and wildlife — right there at the sharp end, right there in these most sensitive and important places – we’re doing something that matters.

That’s why I’m a patron of High Five Club. I’ve seen the way that simple ideas, small changes and relatively cheap actions – like a school breakfast club – can change hearts and minds and lives and communities. I like the High Fivers. By thinking small they act big.

Will Travers, OBE – The Born Free Foundation

I am really proud to be a patron of the High Five Club. It makes an important contribution to improving the lives of local communities in Africa while at the same time emphasising the need to protect natural environments and wildlife species. And 100% of our member’s contributions go directly to our work on the ground in Africa with no deductions for administration. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about our latest projects and, please, do send a link to our website to your family, friends and colleagues. Together, we can make a world of difference.

It slightly pains me to say it, but there are some charities who “mean well”, but haven’t quite “got it together”. More sentiment than sense perhaps. More raving than reality! Passion is of course essential, but it must fuel practicality. The High Five Club is a splendid example of how it should be done, and that is why I am a patron.
