We are thrilled to have joined hands with the Olsen Animal Trust www.olsenanimaltrust.org over the past year to continue our support of community conservation in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley and help wild animals, and the marginalised local community that protects them, to flourish. Linking wildlife conservation and poverty reduction together is the beating heart of the High Five Club and we are so happy to have been able to continue this critical work in Zambia over the past 12 months.

From small acorns great oaks grow. And this is certainly the case for our ‘adopted’ community school in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley – Chitenga Community School. Starting out as a humble mud and thatch community school, we have over the past 2 years helped the community to build a 2-classroom block school and recently built 3 teacher’s house for volunteer teachers from the community, along with pupil toilets, and the provision of learning resources and furniture for the staff room.

Access to safe, clean water is the number one priority for all communities we work with in wildlife areas of Africa. It is life giving.
We are thrilled that we have been able to expand our water programme into Malawi – one of the poorest countries in Africa. And boy was this a challenge as you will read!!!
It is a real testimony to the tenacity and resilience of marginalised people in Africa that our water programme in Malawi has borne fruit. It was both inspiring and humbling in equal measures to walk this journey with them.
We hope you will enjoy reading the attached update and also watching the 2 videos here.

We have expanded our provision of clean water into rural villages in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley. 4 new wells brings safe water to 2,000 more villagers and reduces conflict between people and wildlife at shared water sources. A win-win situation for both people and wildlife.
