The High Five Club has joined hands with ECHO at Eastbourne College to continue our support of an annual feeding programme at Malimba Basic School in Zambia’s wildlife-rich Luangwa Valley.
This effective intervention has improved attendance levels and increased enrollment numbers at this rural school. The premise is simple – a full belly means fuller classes and enhanced learning.

1 Human – Wildlife Conflict Reduction, Zambia
We have joined hands with Game Rangers International (GRI) to build wildlife-proof granaries in effected villages around Kafue National Park in Zambia. The idea behind the wildlife-proof granaries is simple – build low-cost, sturdy, brick granaries without roofs (which elephants and primates can easily dismantle) in vulnerable, wildlife-targeted villages.
This simple intervention will go a long way to help reduce human wildlife-conflict in this wildlife rich area of Zambia for the benefit of both the local community and wildlife.

0 HIGH FIVE MEMBER TAKES ON ULTRA MARATHON
We would also like to take this opportunity to encourage one of our members Ben Cheal who is running the toughest footrace on earth to raise funds for our school projects in Uganda. Ben will be participating in the Marathon des Sables in Morocco in April. This 250km race takes place over 6 days in the Sahara Desert in temperatures of up to 50°C. And the icing on the cake is the fact that the runners are self-sufficient except for water and a simple open tent for shelter each night.

0 EXPANSION OF BREAKFAST CLUB INTO KENYA
It is with great excitement that we bring you the news of the expansion of our school feeding programme into our long-term partner school Mara Riante in Kenya’s Masai Mara. This simple intervention is making successful in-roads into tackling one of the root causes of both poverty and poaching – lack of access to education.
As a result of this Breakfast Club enrollment numbers have increased with more Maasai parents putting their children into school. Attendance levels have also soared with children able to participate in lessons rather than search for the day’s food.

High Five Club has partnered with ABATO Uganda to supply 40 x 3-seater desks and benches for the community-run Galilee School. Previously all 120 learners were taught sat on the ground. This small intervention has greatly improved the learning environment at this rural school.

1 New Patron – Simon Barnes
We are pleased to announce that author and journalist Simon Barnes has become a Patron of the High Five Club.
Simon has a passion for Africa, local communities and wildlife so makes a fitting ambassador for our charity.
Simon wrote for The Times newspaper between 1982 and July 2014, initially on sport, and subsequently also on wildlife. He became their chief sportswriter in 2002, covering seven summer Olympic Games and various World Cups, Wimbledons, Test matches & Super Bowls.
